Take Action

First, the bad news: it’s hard to take direct action toward nuclear weapons abolition. It’s not like your $10 donation goes straight to dismantling a warhead. Nuclear weapons were created by nations, and only nations can abolish them. (At least with the similarly challenging Campaign to Ban Land Mines, supporters can sponsor a mine-sniffing dog. With nuclear weapons—no such luck.)

But nuclear weapons don’t have to be as paralyzing as they seem, either. In fact, you’ll find that you feel better about this situation if you’re working to make a difference.

Even better, you’ve picked a great time to get involved: through 2010, the U.S. government will be reviewing its policy regarding the future of nuclear weapons. So we’re not just raising our voices to hear ourselves talk – we’re speaking to a once-in-a-generation political opportunity.

Our action is geared toward two complementary goals:

1) Promoting the vision of a nuclear weapons-free world by advocating for a treaty to abolish nuclear weapons.

2) Promoting the concrete steps to get to Zero. The vision of a world beyond nuclear weapons drives us. But legislation, policy initiatives, and treaties will be the paving stones along the way.

Toward this end, there are a number of actions you can take. Whether direct or indirect, each one helps. Click through our helpful list, below, tailored to the type of person you are. And thank you!
